Jim Scarpace, MS, LCPC

Jim Scarpace has over 25 years of experience in the mental health, substance use disorder and criminal justice field. Jim joined Gateway Foundation in 2007 as a program director and was promoted to executive director in 2013.

His previous roles include being a supervisor for the Department of Probation and Court Services in DuPage County where he assisted in developing a mental health program for high-risk youth, and supervised therapists and probation officers who worked with juvenile offenders with mental health and substance use disorders. In addition, Jim has worked in a hospital setting with adults with severe mental health concerns with a focus on treatment planning, assessment and family counseling. Jim also worked for several years in the community as a therapist for adolescents with severe mental health disorders and coordinated a residential facility for high-risk children and adolescents involved with the Department of Children and Family Services. His areas of expertise include addiction, trauma, group therapy, crisis intervention, family therapy and advocacy.

Jim is an assistant professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and has taught graduate classes in clinical and forensic psychology. He earned his master’s degree in clinical psychology from Benedictine University and has been a licensed clinical professional counselor since 2000.

Sandeep Gaonkar, MD

Dr. Gaonkar started his medical career at Albert Einstein University affiliate hospital in New York. He currently manages a private practice in Naperville and works at Amita Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.

Throughout his career, Dr. Gaonkar has held chairmanship and directorship positions at hospitals, community outpatient programs, and long-term care facilities. He strives to provide patients and their families with effective treatments through compassion, patient education, and research.

Dr. Gaonkar completed his psychiatric residency with academic honors from Rosalind Franklin University in Illinois.

Joliet Addiction Treatment Staff

The Gateway Foundation Joliet clinical team consists of certified alcohol and drug counselors (CADCs), as well as licensed staff such as licensed professional counselors (LPCs), licensed clinical professional counselors (LCPCs) and licensed social workers (LSWs). The compassionate and supportive team works with patients to combine Medication-Assisted Treatment with psychotherapy and counseling to ensure patients are able to sustain lasting recovery.
